Ornamentale

2026 Milano, Italy ITA

ORNAMENTALE is a self-initiated lighting research project developed by D’Alesio&Santoro, co-financed under the PR FESR Lombardia 2021-2027 β€œProgramma di accelerazione per le PMI della moda e del design” (Design Momentum – Phase 2).

Indoor ornamental greenery has become part of the architectural language of contract spaces – workplaces, hospitality, retail, public interiors – yet it is rarely designed as a living organism with its own lighting requirements. Without controlled quantity, quality and duration of light, plants inside buildings lose vigour over time, growing unevenly and requiring frequent maintenance.

ORNAMENTALE translates this into a family of discreet luminaires – Single, Double, Spotlight, each in Standard and Maxi – engineered from the physiological needs of plants rather than adapted from general lighting. LED selection, optics, spacing and CCT/CRI 95+ are calibrated to balance plant growth requirements with the visual comfort and perceptual quality of the space.

The project brings together D’Alesio&Santoro’s lighting design and architectural integration with the scientific research of MEG Science, combining a design-driven and science-backed approach with industrial-grade manufacturing quality.
